Join the Society of Pediatric Nurses (SPN) and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRCF) for an engaging activity intended to strengthen pediatric nurses’ ability to support transgender youth and their families.

This 90-minute event begins with a brief overview of policy and research affecting transgender youth, followed by personal stories from parents of transgender children who will share their experiences navigating healthcare systems and supporting their children’s gender journeys. As access to gender-affirming care continues to change across the country, there will be a moderated panel discussion and an audience-led Q&A. Participants will gain valuable insights into the impact of healthcare interactions on transgender patients and their families.

Attendees will learn strategies for building trust, offering emotional support, and connecting families with resources to help them through these difficult times. This discussion with parents, along with a new guide and resources from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, can position you and your practice to be more responsive to and effective with this patient population.

Pediatric firearm injuries remain a significant public health concern, particularly in regions where firearm ownership is deeply woven into community culture. Since 2022, Renown Children’s Hospital has achieved a 47% reduction in pediatric firearm-related injuries through a comprehensive prevention strategy focused on education, trust building, safe storage, and community engagement.

In this webinar, Jorge Montano-Figueroa, Pediatric Injury Prevention Specialist at Renown Children's Hospital and Safe Kids Washoe County Coordinator, will share how meeting families where they are -through schools, community events, and trusted local partnerships- has transformed firearm safety conversations in both urban and rural communities.

Participants will learn practical strategies for building trust, leveraging community partnerships, implementing the Be SMART campaign, distributing safety resources, and creating meaningful behavior change without judgment or political polarization. Attendees leave with actionable tools to strengthen firearm injury prevention efforts within their own communities.
