CPN Power Prep: Preparation Review Program - September Cohort

Live Session Dates: 2026- September 5, 12, 19, 26 (Saturdays) 11:00 am CT - 12:00 pm CT

This is a concise, 4-week virtual interactive review that highlights key topics for the pediatric certification exam. Building on the nurses' existing knowledge, each week features different content and formats, including case studies, educational games, and more. 

The program consists of a pre-session confidence level survey, weekly required readings, weekly knowledge checks, 4 weekly 1-hour live, virtual interactive review sessions, 1 certificate of completion per completed week, a post-session confidence level survey and an overall program survey. Additional resources including test taking tips, case study reviews and takeaways will be provided. Course participants will also be granted access to an SPN Hive group exclusive to CPN Prep cohort participants looking to network and connect with one another as they prepare for the CPN Exam. Sessions are structured as follows:

WEEK 1: Growth and Development, Respiratory/ENT Conditions, & Renal, Genitourinary, Reproductive Conditions

WEEK 2: Behavioral/Mental Health Conditions Hematologic Conditions & Oncologic Conditions

WEEK 3: Neurologic Conditions, Infectious Diseases & Endocrine/Metabolic Conditions

WEEK 4: Gastrointestinal Conditions, Cardiovascular Conditions & Dermatologic Conditions   

Outcome:

Short-term measurement: Upon course completion, 80% of participants will report increased confidence and increased knowledge of the content needed to pass the certification exam. 

Long-term measurement: Follow-up survey will indicate that 80% of participants who took the CPN exam will report successful certification.

Pediatric firearm injuries remain a significant public health concern, particularly in regions where firearm ownership is deeply woven into community culture. Since 2022, Renown Children’s Hospital has achieved a 47% reduction in pediatric firearm-related injuries through a comprehensive prevention strategy focused on education, trust building, safe storage, and community engagement.

In this webinar, Jorge Montano-Figueroa, Pediatric Injury Prevention Specialist at Renown Children's Hospital and Safe Kids Washoe County Coordinator, will share how meeting families where they are -through schools, community events, and trusted local partnerships- has transformed firearm safety conversations in both urban and rural communities.

Participants will learn practical strategies for building trust, leveraging community partnerships, implementing the Be SMART campaign, distributing safety resources, and creating meaningful behavior change without judgment or political polarization. Attendees leave with actionable tools to strengthen firearm injury prevention efforts within their own communities. 

Outcome: 85% of the participants will learn at least 1 new strategy regarding gun safety based on the knowledge gained in the webinar

This session will provide a focused look at how today’s healthcare environment is impacting nursing care for LGBTQ+ youth. Participants will learn how current factors influence patient care access and identify approaches that strengthen therapeutic relations, reduce barriers to care and enhance overall quality of practice with LGBTQ+ youth. Attendees will leave with greater confidence in navigating today’s practice environment and in delivering compassionate, patient centered care to LGBTQ+ young people and their families across diverse settings.

Outcome: 85% of participants will report increased knowledge on post-session evaluation regarding patient-centered strategies to improve communication, build rapport, and enhance the clinical experience for LGBTQ+ young people and their families

Parents of children with medical complexity are not passive recipients of care they are seasoned experts on their child's unique medical needs, communication patterns, and quality-of-life priorities. This webinar explores the powerful potential of reframing the nurse–parent relationship as a collaborative partnership, one in which parental knowledge is recognized as a clinical asset and nurses step fully into their role as advocates. Hear from experienced parents how nurses can build trust, elevate parents’ voices, and deliver care that is not only medically sound but also deeply aligned with the values and lived experiences of the families they serve.
