The SPN Journal Club endeavors to be a space for pediatric nursing professionals to engage with pertinent articles from the Journal of Pediatric Nursing each quarter, inviting both SPN members and non-members to meet and engage in robust discussion and share ideas and resources to inform and improve their work and patient care. This meeting will discuss the article "The good death”: Experience of parents who have suffered the loss of a child in a pediatric intensive care unit. A phenomenological study" published in the Journal of Pediatric Nursing.

When Healthcare Hurts: Supporting Colleagues Through Grief

We are humans doing some of the most human work in pediatric nursing. We play a key role in the stories of our patients’ illness journeys, and our own stories are inevitably shaped along the way. In this webinar, we will discuss the oft-neglected reality of our experience with grief as healthcare workers. We will identify common barriers to healthy processing of our grief in the healthcare context, and discuss practical ways to support one another through grief in both the short- and long-term. Attendees will have an opportunity to explore their own stories and reflect on the hard and beautiful aspects of doing this work.
