Pediatric Fellowship Course: Chronic Conditions – Part 1 (Overview)

Objectives

•             Describe the nurse’s role in caring for children with chronic illnesses and supporting their families

•             Understand and recognize common gastrointestinal disorders in pediatrics and describe their management

•             Understand and recognize common neurological conditions in pediatrics and describe their management

•             Discuss common congenital and genetic disorders of childhood and describe their management.

Outcome: 85% of the participants will have a foundational knowledge of pediatric nursing care, as evidenced by passing the post-test for each module.

Continuing education: Society of Pediatric Nurses is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 16532.

• Describe long-term concerns and management for children with ADHD and SCD.

• ­­­­­Identify the distinctive characteristics of Type 1 & 2 Diabetes in children.
• Apply a developmental approach to managing Type 1 and 2 Diabetes across various pediatric age levels.
• Implement nursing strategies in treating Type 1 and 2 Diabetes and its complications.
• Provide families with appropriate resources and education regarding the care of their child with Type 1 & 2 Diabetes
